Table 6 Ferric reducing ability of plasma (FRAP) before (evening) and after (morning) polysomnography controlled sleep

From: No evidence of enhanced oxidant production in blood obtained from patients with obstructive sleep apnea

Patients group FRAP [μM] measured at Diff, 95% CI
  Evening Morning
OSAS, n = 27 671 ± 221 602 ± 202 70 (7–133)
Severe OSAS, n = 11 729 ± 156 650 ± 170 79 (37–122)
CPAP-OSAS, n = 22 597 ± 199 591 ± 242 7 (-44–57)
Controls, n = 11 634 ± 229 597 ± 201 37 (-3–77)
  1. OSAS – patients with the untreated OSAS; CPAP-OSAS – patients with OSAS treated successfully after a first attempt with CPAP, controls – subjects without OSAS. Results expressed as a mean ± SD represent concentration of Fe3+ reduced ions after 3 min. incubation of plasma sample with the FRAP reagent. Diff, 95% CI – difference of means with 95% confidence interval
  2. No significant differences (p > 0.05) were found for evening and morning FRAP within and between the studied groups.
